Frequently asked questions

We want you to have all the information you need before choosing Axis Aluminum LLC. As state-licensed contractors, we follow mandatory rules and regulations to help ensure every project is completed properly.

Unfortunately, many companies do not carry the appropriate insurance, and even more may not hold a valid contractor’s license. Please check thoroughly before hiring any contractor. Always request proof of licensing and insurance before signing a contract, and take the time to verify that the documents are current and valid.

Unlicensed contractors significantly outnumber licensed professionals. If you have questions about any part of the process, please feel free to contact us by phone, text, or email.

Do you need a permit?

Yes. In Florida, nearly all new installations, structural modifications, and major repairs involving hurricane shutters and pool cages require a building permit. Because these structures are engineered to withstand intense wind loads and help protect your property, local building departments typically require permitted plans to be submitted.

Some projects may not require a permit, but they must still be completed by a properly state-licensed contractor. These may include rescreening, patio screen room installations, shutter motor replacements, and certain structural repairs to aluminum structures or hurricane shutters. Always review your contractor's documentation and verify that their license is current.

Which type of hurricane shutter is right for my home and my budget?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer, as the best choice depends on your budget, how quickly you want to deploy them, your neighborhood's aesthetics & what an HOA allows. Here is a quick breakdown of the most popular options we install:

Metal/ Fabric roll downs
Accordions
Bahama Style
Storm Panels

Each product also has several options itself that allow you to customize your homes exterior in a way that best fits for you. We use several manufacturers giving you many options

Advanced Hurricane Technologies (AHT), manufacturers of fabric and metal roll-down curtains, accordion shutters, bug and solar screen roll-downs, and Bahama-style shutters, offers in-house financing.

You work directly with AHT throughout the financing process. Axis Aluminum LLC is paid by AHT—not by you—and never receives or has access to your application, billing, or financing information.

What is the timeline for installing shutters or a pool cage from start to finish?

  • Engineering & Permitting (2–4 weeks): Once you sign your contract, our team immediately drafts the necessary engineering plans and submits the permit applications to your city or county.
  • Custom Fabrication (2–7 weeks): While waiting on the permit, materials for your shutters or pool cage are custom-ordered and fabricated to your home's exact dimensions. (Fabric & Metal roll downs 6 week average delivery)
  • Installation (1–30 days): Once the permit is in hand, actual on-site installation begins. Most shutter installations take just 1 day, while a standard pool cage replacement takes 2 to 3 days. Additional time added if concrete, pavers and HOA are involved
  • Final Inspection (1 week): After installation, we schedule and coordinate with the local county or city inspector to officially close out your permit and ensure everything meets code. Not all projects require someone to be present.

We manage every single step of this timeline so you are never left wondering about the status of your project.
